I wouldn't touch any of the following with a barge pole:
Lady Grove
Fleet Meadow
Barley Fields
Great Western Drive (and similar)
If you want a decent house, with real walls in a nice area I'd look at Brasenose. No council, private estate, very nice. Don't get any trouble in the area, unless you count those that walk from the oval (another place to avoid at all costs).
Depends how much you want to spend, if you want somewhere to move into and do nothing, or a bit of a project. Look at nethouseprices.com, this will tell you what other houses have gone for, and should give you an idea of costs in the area.
