SOLL Leisure membership warning

If you sign for a SOLL Leisure membership (Didcot Wave, Leisure Centre etc) be absolutely sure to get the member of staff selling it to you to write down the cancellation terms on headed paper and sign it.
The reason? Because what they tell you when you sign up and what head office think are very different.
I, thank goodness, asked for everything to be written out simply, and have a signed piece of headed paper stating "There is no contract - ideally give one months notice in writing if cancelling."
Two days ago, I emailed SOLL saying I wasn't using the gym now the weather was better, was going to cancel our joint membership, and asking the prices if I used the facilities on an occasional basis instead.
Their response? To get a girl at Didcot Wave to phone me and demand that I give 3 months notice (a total of £198). Thanks to my letter, I was legitimately able to tell her to pass on the message to head office, that they could p*ss off, or I would see them in court.
I can't imagine what they think they're playing at; I have gone from thinking that they had decent facilities that I would continue to pay to use, to thinking they are filthy charlatans that I wouldn't touch with a bargepole. Great customer relations!
