I have used quite a few mobile mechanics in my time living in Didcot.

Yes i have used Tony Smith and Steve Bates as well as Andy in Blewbury and some others that are not worth talking about; however my view is that mobile mechanics CAN NOT give you the full service that your car may require, i.e. ramps safety equipment, and protection that the work is being done with the correct tools.

A mobile mechanic will cut corners and will lie to you to get more money out of you for work that is not really needed, they will also use the cheapest parts, which will not last as long, and if the weather is bad (like it has been) your car will just sit there until the mobile mechanic feels like coming back out to it.


Where as a proper garage will and can give your car the full treatment it deserves, also having the backup of the other staff at the garage. And knowing that your car is in safe hands as well as being covered by the Garage's own insurance whilst they have it, now that’s a plus and a mobile mechanic wont offer you that.

You have to remember that if you book a mobile mechanic to come to your house to do work on your car then it HAS to be done on your drive and NOT on the road side as this is an offence (I’ve checked this out with the council and the boys in blue). Lets say that the mechanic spills a gallon of oil in the gutter and it makes a nasty mess YOU are responsible for the cost to clear it up not the mobile mechanic (as its from your car)same applies if it gets into the drains and contaminates a local stream or river.

Also you will have to make sure that your House Insurance will cover you to allow your premises to be used as a workshop, Just imagine if the Mobile Mechanic was under the car and the jack slipped due to your drive way being uneven, or he fell over injuring himself rendering him unable to work for a few months due to your drive way being uneven YOU will be responsible for his loss of earnings. And being a mobile mechanic he will say that he could earn 2k per week, you home insurance will not cover this and will not payout it will have to come direct from you.

NOW DO YOU SEE THE LIGHT, Don’t use a mobile mechanic use a qualified garage there are quite a few in Didcot, the best one is on Southmead industrial estate can't miss it nice people
