This imposing pub stands opposite Didcot Parkway Railway Station and, as well as providing excellent food and drink to locals, is regularly visited by commuters as they wait for their next train. The décor is very traditional and the food on offer is good value for money pub fare, which will make you want to come back for more. Much better than a cold, boring station waiting room I think. Why not give us a try.

The building work is progressing nicely, photo's from the last week can been seen on facebook. So far everything is on schedule for our grand re-opening on the 15th June (never was the 12th, take it from someone in the know!!). We will be aiming at a much cleaner and somewhat posher environment, no more work boots, dogs or high viz clothing. With a fantastic and exciting new menu. There will be a web-site up and running very soon with details of our re-launch, recruitment and menu. Watch this space for more info.

The Prince has been closed early due to some unforseeable problems. They will re-open June 12th after the refurb, which I am looking forward to.
Missing the old place already and it's only been closed for a week or so.
Any one who's missing ERnie can locate him either in the Ladygrove, or the Wallingford Arms fast asleep propping up the bar....

The Prince is shut due tibbeten malaria carring fleas. Due to re-open next thursday.
I've also been told that there's an angry hobbit soon to pay a visit. Not sure whats gonna happen then.
I do know that he's always happy as long as there is a good supply of hobbit juice.

Any ideas as to why the Prince of Wales pub is closed at the moment? I know it is scheduled for a bit of a revamp but I thought that was not due to start for some weeks.

After some trepidation, I took my life into my hands, and paid the Prince of Wales a visit. And have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Sure enough the clientele were generally of the earthy variety but the beer was very good, and special mention must be made of the guiness and steak pie, which should be a must for anyone. The legendary "man with no teeth" was in residence and he is a legend in his own right. Even if his memory only lasts seconds. Steve is another colourful character, a liverpudlian, he claims although has no trace of an accent. Finally, the new managers Norman and Curly, seem to be taking to the task very well and only good things should come in the future. Miss this pub at your peril!

I've been going to the Prince for over 2 yrs now. I've made some great friends with the locals, i find it a very friendly pub once you give it a chance. AS for the new managers Nathan and Carly their names, i feel they will get on well and after all they only want to run a great pub which i feel thats what we all want. I'd like to welcome them.

Went into the Prince of Wales last Saturday, and found a very friendly welcome by the staff and the locals. Both the Landlady and Landlord were lovely and the food was excellent. After the Refurb it will be brilliant. Cant wait!

The Prince will defintely be re-opening after the refurb, the new managers are set to be there for as long as Greene King want them there, which is a good thing I've found thm both hard workin and friendly. Don't think she's stuck up at all!! If ya dont like it don't drink there!!

Posted by I HOPE NOT — 10/03/2008 at 23:01
I HEAR THE PRINCE IS GOING TO HAVE A REFURB THATS GREAT . I ALSO HEARD THAT THE PRINCE ONCE CLOSED FOR REFURB WONT OPEN AGAIN .IS THIS TRUE? I HOPE NOT ,THERE ARE TO MANY PUBS CLOSING DOWN THESE DAYS.

The old smelly guy is called Ernie, who is a pain in the a*se but a nice hard working man who is 73. If you do go in the prince again and he talks to you, just him politely to go away.
Well it look's that the refurb is finally going to happen, in the next 6 weeks we are told. Just a pity that they have put another manager in, this time there's 2 of them, he's ok and settling in but as for his girlfriend, not too sure. Bit stuck up for our liking.
BUT, we shall give them a chance and see how they fare.
The prince will always be the prince and it's locals are still very loyal.
Don't dismiss the place, wait till the refurb has been completed and you will see that the prince has character and a good place to meet mates for a good laugh and a few drinks.

Thankfully the Prince of Wales is now under new management. It is thoroughly cleaned and the new landlord is excllent. The atmostphere is friendly and welcoming and the kitchen is now open to have food as well as a good pint. Granted the building is run down, but there is very little that can be done about this until Greene King invest some money. The Prince of Wales is finally a great place to be...

A very nice description of the Prince of Wales, but no true in every sense.
The only good thing about the Prince of Wales is the staff, the toilets seem to rarely cleaned, what used to be a very busy a friendly local has turned into a "dive".
I personally feel that if Greene King were to refurb this "prime" location pub and changed the management it would be a "gold mine" to say the least and get it back to it's original state.

Is the large lady always seen proping up the bar the Boss,,?
She is a honey,,, makes my visit worthwhile, just to catch a glimpse of this large beauty while sipping on my Pint of cola,,,,,,, can i suggest she does some lap dancing,,,,,,,,id like to see her tatoos up close

Posted by Ernie — 02/07/2007 at 11:51
the dancing ladies on saturday were out of this world. I spent my entire weeks pension putting pound coins in their pint glass.

When the pub next door (Great Western) was turned into a car park, there was a brief time when you thought this would be the making of the Prince of Wales. Unfortunately it's actually just got worse and worse. The always friendly staff are the one bright note in an untidy pub. A perfectly decent jukebox has been taken away and now adverts for the tawdry srippers that appear on Fridays and Saturdays plaster the walls and bar area. You'd have a better time drinking an old plastic bottle of cider in the nearby Didcot Railway Centre.

Posted by Schoefield — 25/05/2007 at 16:35
I think the strippers at first were ok until they started coming up to you asking if I wanted a lap dance, I was polite about it but when they continued to come begging for a cheap lap dance I just laughed. I think the Prince need to have a think about this.
